Marc Berdet


Curriculum Vitae

Marc Berdet is currently a Marie-Curie Alumni at the University of Potsdam, Berlin (project AMEUR from the programme FP7-people). He is also associate researcher with the Centre d’étude des techniques, des connaissances et des pratiques (University of Paris Sorbonne) and the Centre interdisciplinaire d’études et de recherches sur l’Allemagne (Paris).

After having written a doctoral thesis on Walter Benjamin (Fantasmagories et mouvement social dans Paris, capitale du XIXe siècle. La démarche historico-sociologique d’un chiffonnier [“Phantasmagoria and Social Movement in the Arcades Project. A Ragpicker’s Historical-Sociological Reasoning“]), he is currently working in two complementary directions: on a one hand, he is trying to shape a new reading of Walter Benjamin from the standpoint of his “anthropological” materialism; on the other hand, with an updating of the critical theory, he aims at analysing the aesthetic of our (post)modern world. He published Fantasmagories du capital. L’invention de la ville-marchandise, Paris, La Découverte (coll. Zones), 2013, Walter Benjamin. La passion dialectique, Paris, Armand Colin, 2014 and with Thomas Ebke (dir.), Anthropologischer Materialismus und Materialismus der Begegnung. Vermessungen der Gegenwart im Ausgang von Walter Benjamin und Louis Althusser, Berlin, Xenomoi Verlag, 2013. He will soon publish Chiffonnier de Paris. Dans les pas de Walter Benjamin, Paris, Vrin (coll. Matière étrangère) 2015.

He is also the chief-editor of the website, and of the journal of social research Anthropology + Materialism.

Christos Lynteris

Christos Lynteris is a social anthropologist.

He received his PhD from the University of St Andrews for research on epidemics and epidemiology in modern China.

He is currently a Senior Research Associate at the University of Cambridge’s CRASSH and Principal Investigator for the European Reserch Council funded project Visual Representations of the Third Plague Pandemic.
